Whether you want to pitch up and spend your days on Bournemouth beach, stay nearby and explore unique spots such as Brownsea Island, or just go with the flow and visit other local Dorset gems such as Mudeford & Avon beach, Hengistbury Head, Highclifffe, Poole and Swanage – do it in your own VW camper!
Bournemouth is a thriving seaside town in Dorset on the south coast of England, situated between the New Forest and Poole. With blue flag beaches and touted to be as one of the UK’s top holiday destinations year after year, it really isn’t hard to see why. Bournemouth has become the mecca for watersports, including the insanely popular Paddle or ‘SUP’ boarding. If you don’t already own your own paddle board, there are many places along Bournemouth shores where you can hire or take lessons.
You might find it hard to drag yourself away from the beach but if you manage to, you will discover that Bournemouth has a lot to offer besides sand and sea. Head away from the hustle and bustle of Bournemouth pier, the Oceanarium, seaside restaurants, amusements arcades and take a walk through the picturesque ‘winter gardens’ which will lead you conveniently into the heart of town, or ‘Bournemouth square’ as it is also known. With shops, cafes, restaurants and bars aplenty you won’t struggle to fill your time in the day. If you’re a night owl and fancy some after dark entertainment away from your cosy camper or campsite, Bournemouth offers everything from cinemas, comedy clubs, theatres, to casinos and nightclubs.
It’s easy to make your way around Bournemouth on foot, but for some touring and sightseeing beyond the town, hop back into your VM camper and go and discover more of Dorset – that is the beauty of travelling under your own steam!
