It all looks so good in your imagination: gorgeous sunshine, golden sands, relaxed meals in rustic tavernas, the family cavorting happily in the pool and you smiling from your lounger - beer in one hand, book in the other. The only problem is that overseas trips to foreign climes don’t always quite live up to expectation - and they can sometimes cost you an arm and a leg too. Add in flight delays, airport parking, airport queues plus the challenge of entertaining the little ones on a three hour flight, and heading abroad looks a little less attractive (even before you’ve touched down on the tarmac). Once you’re in sunny Spain/Italy/Portugal/Greece/somewhere else that looked lovely in the brochure, there’s the accommodation to get to grips with, the over zealous reps to avoid, the sunburn, the bugs to fight off and the challenge of finding food (apart from ice cream) that the kids will try… yikes.
It’s not always the case of course - holidaying abroad can be brilliant but recent reports from travel marketing group Sojern have shown a 24% rise in British holidaymakers planning UK stays for summer 2017 instead. That’s right - the UK Staycation is more popular than ever as more people see the benefits of UK breaks and discover the breadth of terrain, the fascinating points of interest and the brilliant attractions which good old Blighty has to offer.
A campervan trip is a great way to spend a UK Staycation.
If you want to get away from it all with a partner or a couple of friends then you could take a tour from our Hampshire HQ, starting as you mean to go on with a nice walk and a pub supper in the New Forest on the first day. Wend your way up through stylish Salisbury and beautiful Bath, making the most of the history / views / shopping /spas (opt for whatever you fancy). The picture-postcard Cotswolds beckon from there, or the wonderful, wild Welsh countryside. Wherever the mood takes you - your camper van will provide reliable transport and comfortable accommodation.
Whether you choose to spend every night of your UK break making the most of your campervan’s pretty luxurious sleeping facilities - or you treat yourself to a couple of boutique B&Bs along the way, our VW California camper vans are as happy being hooked up at a UK campsite as they are parked up in a pub carpark.
If you’re looking for a UK Staycation that’ll keep the kids entertained our Hidden Gems 7 day campervan tour could be the one for you. A tour of the often underrated Sussex and Kent Coasts, our favourite route combines Arundel castle, the golden sands of West Wittering, the buzz of Brighton and a visit to Winnie the Pooh’s homeland. The perfect blend of child friendly activities, easy bursts of driving, relaxing beach trips and gentle rambles, all based from your cosy camper van.
For something a little more history focussed, our Castles and Kings Tour is well suited to Knights of all ages. The UK is such a rich source of historic sites, stately homes, castles and cathedrals that creating a tour around some of the must-sees makes a lot of sense.
Touring the South of England in a camper van is a brilliant way to absorb a little bit of literary culture too. Many of the greats lived, worked and wrote in the South so you can follow in the footsteps of Agatha Christie, Dickens, Shakespeare, CS Lewis and Beatrix Potter by following our UK Literary greats Campervan Tour.
If something a little more laid back suits you better then why not hire a camper van and chill out at some of the South’s coolest campsites. Beaches -tick. Award winning pubs - tick. Awesome sunsets - tick. Take a look at the Camper Hire Cool Camping Tour for the full itinerary.
Opting for a UK Staycation break this summer can be a great solution if you’re after a holiday where you get to control the budget.
Prebooking into budget campsites, incorporating beach trips and wild walks as entertainment and cooking in your camper van’s very own kitchen can make for a very economical holiday. Even if you’ve already got a holiday abroad organised, a camper van mini break could be a great additional opportunity for getting away with the family during the long summer holiday.
It’s so easy to never get around to experiencing so many of the brilliant places that the UK has to offer but with a camper van from Kamper Hire you can create your own personal tour of the highlights that really take your fancy. If you have extended family or friends who you like to holiday with - why not hire vans together and create a convoy?
The UK has so much to offer. Although the weather can sometimes be a little bit unreliable there’s still plenty of sunshine to be had. Our beaches are glorious come rain or shine, the food is fabulous, the views are unbeatable and there’s no need to learn another language to buy a beer. We see why more and more people are increasingly making the most of the UK as a holiday destination - because we love exploring it too.
There’s still plenty of time to book up a summer staycation with Kamper Hire.
